Over-optimization is proof that there can sometimes be too much of a good thing. If you have covered the technical issues of a new website, you’ll have properly prepared your site for all the great content you’ll be adding. If you are getting links from a site that has high PageRank with many other links pointing to it then those links will boost your site's popularity. SEO isn’t an exact science. Unfortunately, Google hasn’t given us a comprehensive list of ranking factors. Considering that Google has around 200 major ranking factors, and as many as 10,000 sub-signals, we can’t possibly know every single aspect of their algorithm.

Does the website that is linking back to your website relate to your business? Make sure there is a strong relevance when acquiring backlinks. Use Social Sharing Buttons
In order to get the authoritative links that Google respects and sustain your search rankings, you need to concentrate on getting contextual links (i.e., links surrounded by relevant content). Higher rankings in the first few results are critical to visibility. Google already gives ranking boosts to sites on a secure protocol (https vs. http) and this emphasis on security will only grow as time passes. Spam links often go both ways. A website that links to spam is likely spam itself, and in turn often has many spam sites linking back to it.
